Cleveland Indians

oh man, the Red Sox just beat the jerk Yankees
The Indians tied the White Sox in the bottom of the 9th
now tied in the bottom of the 11th
can only follow it through the internet
If the Indians win, there'll be a three way tie in the AL Wild card with 2 games left
Yankees/Red Sox tied for both division lead and wild card

So Pointed Davidly

So as new-agey as it may sound, I'm trying to meditate again. Too many years ago in North Fork I did it for 10days. Didn't maintain 'cept to cool my fiery temper or fear of death. Sessions yesterday and the one before... even trying to do it while walking but it's hard to remember to feel it all the time. Ever read 'Franny & Zooey'? Fantasy spurred by Alan Ginsberg during 'No Direction Home'. Kinda like Franny's praying ceaselessly... meditate ceaselessly. Of course I must overcome my small-animal-like attention-span.
I can't recommend the 10day meditation enough, I need to do another one, tone up my flacid brain.

***100% unrelated, 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' makes me laugh many much times. Just finished the 4th season on DVD... free, library. Larry David is the funniest man on earth. He Co-created the show 'Seinfeld' with Jerry Seinfeld... 'cept he's much funnier than Jerry, sorry but true. Both shows are great, but if you're and old fan of 'Seinfeld' that's never seen 'Curb...', get on it. Great rewards await you.

September Swim!

Month #6
I shivered as I clomped up to the water
In the not as cold as I thought I would
Then, once out, the air was mysteriously warm for aproximately oneminute
After, the shivers returned
Halfway through, 6months yet to stuff under my belt
The tough ones are ahead
But it won't be bad, I know how to do it

Dylan Goes Electric

maddness ensues
get ready, gonna be fun
PBS again tonight
9 to 11pm here
I enjoyed the first installment last night, did you?
--------
9/28 Well I hope you caught it. A quick poll around here revealed that both next to no one watched it&there is much dislike for Dylan (weird)... but the 3 that saw it (including myself, Captain Shorts) loved it. Earlier this year I saw, uncut, last nights opening scene. A word play thing, outside a pharmacy or something in England... 'Knit me a cigarette'. Man, I'll tell you what, this period in his career is unlike anything I've ever known. I guess the DVD has uninterupted footage of the Newport 15min Electric set. &YeahIBitTheBullet&BoughtIt.ButComingInTheMailBox
Now wasn't that some gReat music last night?
hot damn
*the performance of 'Chimes of Freedom' was incredible

256kbs MP3, please

HydrogenAudioFAQ
Ok, I've officially changed my methods... again
Please tell me you thoughts on MP3 quality & BitRates. It may be a boring topic, but of the upmost importance if you, like me, want to maintain and grow a digital music library... hopefully for the rest of your life. Quality of life investment or boring, you choose.

A couple-a years ago, I started in earnest ripping my CDs to my computer I made 160kbs files. I ran my computer into my stereo system and I was living great... only thing, and it's a thing alright, was the music didn't seem as vibrant as a CD. Seemed kinda flat so I bumped up the bitrate to 192kbs, sounded better, so I made the change. I actually can't really complain about this level, it sounds just fine to me... normally. A month or so ago, I did a head to head test, CD vs. 192MP3: Lo & behold, there is a difference that even I could decern. Then I tried out other bitrates 224, 256, 320, & vaious VBRs (Variable BitRate). Now I don't claim to be an audiophile, scientist, or purest, but higher bitrates produce better results... of course it makes sense, less compression, higher quality. 256&320 MP3s produced TrueCD Quality -> meaning I was unable to decern difference between the CD & the MP3. To the best of my ability, using relatively high volume, I couldn't differenciate between the CD, 256MP3, and 320MP3... needless to say, I couldn't differenciate between 256&320MP3, therefore my NEW STANDARD for MP3 ripping is Now 256kbs.
I won't rerecord eVerYtHing, but I've started the very slow process of upgrading many albums. File size just means less and less and less and less. So there's just Less and lEss and leSs and lesS reason to limit them... I guess by that reasoning I should rip at 320 (the highest I'm able to at this time)
*I use Musicmatch 8.2 to rip MP3s
*I have a 5gig MP3 player, the larger files do effect this thing. LArger files mean less # of songs on player... but that's alright, I play with it's contents daily
*Stereo Systems are great. It is possible to copy audio from copyrighted DVDs. Realtime, only though. Different output option on the stereo... digital or analog... can record on the digital, record analog... beautiful.
*Now I just need a needle for my record player... then I kin rip records, pops and all... we'll see.
*I find some articles on MP3 BitRates and post links shortly... read some interesting stuff a few weeks ago.

No Direction:CalMex:Dayton

Well, visions of Dylan are gonna fill up television screens across the country on Monday& Tuesday... PBS ("PBS is run by communits" according to the nicest uncle in my quiver). Martin Scorsese's No Direction Home Bob Dylan is in route to becoming a tiny screen phenominum. While I've been somewhat looking forward to it, I just got my first glimpse of the program by way of a DVD quicky thanks to the deep pockets of people wealthier than me and my golden tips.
Saw some absolutely spectacular footage of Dylan and the Hawks busting out some rocknroll at the Newport Folk Festival. Why can't we have the whole 15minute deal uninterupted? Crystal clear audio, crystal clear video. Also borrowed the starbucks Dylan CD from rich pimp who frequent the chain. Don't buy it. Yes, it is quite good or better... get it for fReE from sOMeoNE.
CalMex: I'll tell you what, I know some good people in this world. Luckily I needn't talk to them every day. The ocean again proves that my love for it is not unfounded. I once got so nervous I busted the bottom outta a full beer in a bottle. It's contents tucked itself away in the sand very tidily. MJM has a baby. I'm only being honest here, but most babies and children and smaltz mean absolutely nothing to me... apathy sometimes bordering on, er, antipathy (i just looked that word up, came out my fingers but never out my mouth), but littlebyMJM was a magical little guy.
Dayton: Now don't think I'm from there, 'cause I just ain't, rather NE Ohjo but things happened and family came together and that where I found myself. Now I normally feel like an anomily in this world. Like wires were crossed and a flash fire went through my brain. With some-a these people, hell, nearly all-a them, I see building block of my seLf. Felt good. Republicans and more than 1 zealot, yes, but I'm in there somewhere, it's oBviouS. I also like my little cousin J... so I like 2 kids, I'm not all bad.
