Lunar Eclipse

Hope you saw the eclipse of the moon. Kinda cool, not something you see every night. Rusty, red dull haze. Now the moon is up in the west, a giant full one. Damn is it now bright.

Wildly Good

The Fiery Furnaces XFM... full concert audio & video
Oh, just in case you haven't gotten enough of The Fiery Furnaces, here's another hunk uv'm. I can dwell on things, I admit it, but I'm ok with it. This is a streaming Full Concert, 8/25/04. Fantastic, record quality. Now if that weren't enough, there is professional VIDEO through the whole thing, 41 minutes. Their show is different now, they play distinct songs here. When I saw them in earlier this month they turned their songbag into a mass of fragments and jumbled them around. Someone, anyone tell me what you think of this band. My 2 favorite musics are this band and Howlin' Wolf

Vernon God Little

I just finished a great book, Vernon God Little. After the book, the first review, "Holen He Ain't", on Amazon wrote enough for my reaction that I didn't feel the need to read further. I don't get my hands on too much modern fiction, not much to compare it with, but this book has given me an afterglow. Right off I was a bit baffled by the ending. Even still, after finishing I had my wits around me enough to know that I couldn't slouch in returning Kill Bill vol 1 to the video store before I got sleepy, double late fees would be on the horizon. Combine that with Diner, Boiler Room, & The Mask of Zorro each accruing .15 fines each day since the 23rd, an I had adequate motivation to stir sigularity of purpose, get moving and return shit. About a 20minute loop to the library, video store, and back. While walking, the obvious hit me and I saw the ending in a different way. Damn good book. Thanks ando, I'll return it in person sometime.

easytree.org

I'm relatively new to this bit torrent world. At first I thought it was just some sort of novilty deal that I didn't give a damn about. 3 days ago I came across www.easytree.org. Sent there by way of Blueberry Boat, I jumped into ocean of live recordings available within. I imagine there are some legal issues here, must be artist to artist, though. The Fiery Furnaces Official Site links to the Blueberry Boat site which leads to their live recording on easytree... taken in Portland, Oregon Oct 13th, the night after I saw them last. The recording is in FLAC format, easily convertable.
**Over the years, my enjoyment from Bob Dylan flows up and down like a stock chart, trending upwards, of course. I no longer yearn for his older stuff like I once had, current era Dylan is much more interesting to me. Should I snag one-a his shows from this year? Like'm or not, he guards the rights to his music as a mother would cradle her baby while runnign outta a burning house. He just hasn't come to Seattle this year... I've paid the $50 bucks to see him 3 times before and will again. ok, only twice, Ando Palrisian for some reason bought my first ticket at Blossom. btw, Ando may be starting a Bloggg... let's hope and encourage him.

Old Roaster

Take a look at This thing. hmmm

Game 7

ok, I know many people find sports to be boring....BUT... tonight is different. This game is being billed as "the most anticipated game of all time." Less than an hour from now the Red Sox and the Yankees face off in game 7... final game. The winner of this epic battle goes to the World Series. The Yankees were up 3 games to None but the Red Sox roared back, shocking everyone with 3 straight of their own. I hate the Yankees... I equate them to the Republicans (ok I don't hate republicans). For the sake of arguement let's call the Red Sox Democrats, if the Red Sox win, then obviously John Kerry will also, but if the Yankees win, then this whole equation losses meaning because this is just a stupid baseball game for chrissake.
**Alright, it looks like John Kerry will win. Actually, now there is talk of the possible possible Houston Astros v Boston Red Sox World Series, Mass v Tex, Kerry v. Bush. Political tension in baseball, who'da ever thought. Maybe Jackie Robinson but that just not relevant.

28 Days

I know if you count you'll discover that today should be 29days. While you are correct, this photos was taken yesterday.
I left my nose so you can see how crooked my it is. I have no idea how it's gotten this way. Where the cartilage meets the bone, that's where my nose turns distinctly to the right, my right. What's that old comedian, The Schnoz, "hot cha cha..." ah, can't remember his name.
*So how are your costumes coming together? 2weeks left. I haven't done any major work work on mine this past week, but have cleaned, adjusted, and formed my headwear some. Really am fortunate with the thing, my weekly trips to the thrift store pay off yet again.
*I've come to the conclusion that the mustache is the least pleasant piece of a beard.

Frontline PBS

Frontline: The Choice 2004 | PBS
View Episode (web site then view)
I saw and taped Fronline last night. It is an extremely even handed presentation on the adult(18+) bios of both Kerry and Bush. 10minutes one guy, 10minutes the other, 10mins, 10mins... all within some historical context. Stock footage and interviews with friends, family, coworkers, "knowledgeable" sources. This is a completely nonjudgemental program, it strives to be the 3rd person objective. This program made me think that maybe Bush is not AS disingenuous as I'd previously concluded. The flip side of that, they show Kerry's development, something to behold. The more I learn about Kerry, the greater my respect for him becomes.
According to the website, the full 2hour (yes, 2 HOURS) Frontline program is available online for viewing. Last night was the 2nd time it was broadcast; on November 1st, day before the election, it will be shown for a 3rd time.
I highly recommend seeing this episode. The final debate didn't mean much to me outside of the rehashing Bush's anti-abortion and Kerry's pro-choice stances... oh, and same sex marriage/ civil unions. I am disgusted in the majority of Americans suupporting the denial of this right (and the rights that come with marriage) for homosexuals (a pure human rights issue). You won't have to marry them in your churches, people. Kerry's stance is let the states decide individually. Bush's is ban them through a constitutional ammendment. My position is ammend the Federal Constitution to gaurantee them that right across the entire country.

Outside of all that, check out the program. It was informative to me. If character is a factor in your decision, an effective way to illistrate someone's character can outlining the life they've lived.
**sorry, I'm trying to refrain from expressing my political opinions... but give this show a chance.

The Fiery Furnaces

Holy cow! Kathy and I just saw them at The Crocodile Cafe. They are getting better and better. Wow. Sure I recommend some movies, but I do only 1 concert, The Fiery Furnaces. "46minutes, jumbled up, no breaks" From what I've seen and heard, they are just miles more interesting than any other band. So much rocknroll blasts you out of your head, they play controlled, somewhat loud & rolling music like no one else. I don't think anyone that I've tried to influence into seeing The Fiery Furnaces have actually seen The Fiery Furnaces. I just don't get it, really is frustrating. $10... a tiny bit more than a full price movie, nothing. I've seen them play 3times, each time the shows have been different in essence; each time easily better than the last. Given any remote chance, I won't miss them. No chance. Absolutely.
**They played live instudio at KEXP today, Listen... first however many minutes, 4 songs

Bob Dylan

*Wow, today there are a whole host of people with Bob Dylan on the tip of thier tongues . Pigeon Toed has already read Chronicles Vol 1; Ando and Ugly each passed on information regarding Bob Dylan's NPR Interview today in their own ways.
*I kinda liked the interview, Ugly however was left unimpressed. It amazes me how much animosity and disappointment Dylan inspires... it's as though they have not recieved something they were promised.
*Much to the chagrin of The Bob Dylan Machine, I consider my collection of his music public domain. I sent Dylan a letter, "Bob Dylan, No Associate" asking him if I could give away his music in MP3 form... no response by my birthday meant it was ok... no response, so it must be legal, I copied the letter
*I am now convinced that I will buy his book, I look forward to reading it.
*Even listened to old Dylan today, Another Side of Bob Dylan. Damn it was good... I just don't listen to him like I used to, but when I do it is generally the newer stuff of his...
*enough of that: THE FIERY FURNACES IN CONCERT TONIGHT!!!
if you haven't already, please, PLEASE listen to This... a very good recording of them in November of 2003.

squarely 5pm now... can't proofread my horrible English and spelling... have to leave work for sanitation or... mental stability

Veep Debate

I was not impressed with John Edwards. While I vehemently disagree with the actions of the current administration, I believe Cheney won the debate. Republicans have to be happy...that is until they are reminded that their presidential candidate is actually Bush.
*To be honest, it seems that it would be much more appropriate for Kerry and Cheney to debate. Neither Bush nor Edwards conveyed thier tickets positions very well.

VeePee DeeBate

Tonight, 9pm EST
I must admit that I was a tad bit disappointed in the choice of John Edwards for veep. Wesley Clarke endeared himself to me during the Democratic primaries. Many like him; hope Edwards proves me wrong, just think he is kinda fluff.

Movies +

I saw 3 movies this weekend, one was incredible.
Motorcyle Diaries
Two Argentineans, 23 & 29yrolds set out on a motorcycle to discover their continent, South America, in 1952. The motorcycle doesn't make it but an engaging journey unfolds. The 23yrold, Che Guevara, later became infamous.
My highest recomendation for this one. Both MJM (&Debro) and Ugly should go see it.
-----
Other Movies:
This weekend
1. Sky Captain & The World Of Tomorrow: This won't be for everyone, sci-fi throwback to the early days film. If you like this, check out Metropolis from 1927. I thought Space Captain was cool, see it in the theater if you want to see it... video would suck.
2. Boiler Room: I really thought this movie was gonna be better than it was. Sorta an action movie put into the context of illegal stock trading. I don't know, it was entertaining on some level, but overall was unnecessary and somewhat stupid.

Before this weekend
*3. The Station Agent: This was a real suprise. There is a little 2 screen theater 5minutes walk from my apartment that showed this movie for over a month and a half and I never saw it. It recently came on video and with a 99cent rental coupon snagged it. A little guy inherits a small railroad station house in rural New Jersey after the owner of the toy train store he works for dies. This movie was done on a thin buget but is the furthest thing from being amature. Such a good suprise. Saw it a second time with the commentary on... damn, good movie.
Check this one out.
4. Garden State: People liked this movie, so did I. Feel almost obligated to say why I like it.
I Recommend it.
5. North Fork: From what I've read about this movie I think it has gotten underestimated. The movie starts with this town in Montana, North Fork, as it prepares to evacuate as it will soon be flooded by waters resulting from a newly built dam. A peculiar movie with a host of interesting characters. Slow in the begining, get past it and you are in store for a quality story.
6. Erin Brockovich: This movie was stupid. Still, though, I caught myself, with shame mind you, giggling. It was on the shelf in the library, picking some stuff offa reservation and just got it 'cause it was there. That's all I can say, it was there and free.
7. Mean Girls: Kathy hadn't seen this, I already talked about it once. Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live wrote the screenplay and it is funny as hell. This was actually the 3rd time I'd seen it: 1st at the $3Theater 2nd with no sound on an airplane... over 5times laughed out loud 3rd recently. Like good comedies? Then you'll like this.

Books
I'm slowly reading again. My birthday marked the first time I'd picked up a book in 3months, at least.
A. Investment Biker by Jim Rodgers: Jim Rodgers and his girlfriend, Tabitha, ride BMW motorcycles on warranty around the world 57,020 miles. Jim Rodgers was a hedge fund manager and investor; Tabitha has a background in anthropology and some languages. They dropped everything on March 28th 1990 and returned November 11th 1991. You may disagree with some things he has to say, but he has an interesting take through an economic lense. I think you'd find this a worthwhile read even if you don't have a particular interest in stocks. For myself, though, it combines three things I enjoy thoroughly: 1. adventure 2. motorcycles (i've only owned 150cc scooter but i want a motorcycle) 3. the stock market...
I Recommend it
B. Lies And Lying Liars by Al Franken: I like Al Franken, I listen to him on Air America. Great book. Really funny, makes you laugh. Al Franken lambasts conservative cable news with fact after fact highlighting their dishonesty. FOX in particular. We all knew that anyway, he asserts FOX and other hyperconservative broadcasts actually influence mainstream reporting. I believe him. Hell, FOX is now mainstream.... that's scary. Entertaining and fast read, I recomend it.
C. Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefevre: A fictional biography of Jesse Livermoore "The Boy Plunger". Written in 1923, he lived and traded well beyond boyhood, earning and losing several fortunes several times. If your are interested in trading stocks this book will surely give some wisdom. I feel better for having read it. More meat than The Worlds Greatest Stock Trader but not quite as entertaining. None of the chapters have titles, only numbers. I recommend naming the chapters; it is easy to find something appropriate early in any given chapter
D. Adventure Capitalist by Jim Rodgers (again): This is what I'm reading now. This time he is driving around the world in a modified Mercedes convertable. Tabitha is mysteriously absent, this time around his fiance, Paige, is on for the trip. This book beat out Dharma Bums; started both a day apart, but Jim Rodgers won out.

Mt St. Helens

Is starting to erupt, kind of. Steam and a small amount of ash. Not like the major eruption that blew off halfa the crator and killed 57 people in 1980. The wind is moving north to south, away from Seattle towards Portland... it doesn't look like I'll be collecting any vials of ash from the volcano... such is life.
* It is common knowledge that ash from a volcano is good luck... that is if it didn't kill you. In Japan, it is sprinkled on Sushi and eaten to celibrate New Years. ok, I made that up.
